A finalist for Illinois Teacher of the year in 2018-2019, Rodger is currently completing his 29th year in secondary science education.  Rodger began his teaching career as an 8th grade general science teacher at a junior high school in Central Illinois. After teaching high school biology, chemistry and physics for 5 years at an elite laboratory school in Central Illinois, Rodger moved to a neighboring district to teach a variety of courses, from Stagecraft and Intro to Theatre and Acting, to Environmental Biochemistry and Physics classes.  For the last 19 years Rodger has taught Introduction to Laboratory Sciences, Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Physics at a public high school in Central Illinois. Along the way Rodger Earned a Masters Degree in Chemistry Education at Illinois State University and now teaches Dual Credit Chemistry for a local community college.  
 
A proponent of Modelling Methods of Instruction, Rodger enjoys listening to students make sense of the world around them as they view life through the lens of Physics and Chemistry. 
 
Rodger is a Certificated Private Pilot and also holds a Part 107 UAS license to fly aerial drones.  He spends summers and weekends exploring Central Illinois at 2500 feet in his 1974 Grumman Yankee Trainer.
