Julie

Julie is beginning her 6th year of teaching at a large public high school in northern Illinois. She has taught Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Conceptual Physics, General Physics, AP Physics, and Environmental Science. As an educator, Julie's primary goal is to make physics accessible to everyone, regardless of mathematical ability. As part of the IPaSS program, she has developed and adapted problem solving pedagogies and iOLab activities for students of a range of academic backgrounds and mathematical levels. In addition to teaching, Julie is a mom of three wonderful boys, and in her spare time enjoys gardening and playing the violin and piano.

"So many people are scared to take Physics because they think it is too hard; my favorite part about teaching Physics is when I have my students do a reflection halfway through the year and they suddenly realized just how much they know and have accomplished.  At that point, a sense of pride and confidence replaces any misgivings or fear they might have had, and it is awesome to watch.  Guiding kids along the pathway to becoming critical thinkers and effective problem solvers is one of the best parts about this job, second only to getting to share my love of physics with my wonderful students."
